What we handle in Google Ads for your Shopify store
Many Shopify merchants start Google Ads through the Google & YouTube app. It puts products into Merchant Center fast and gets a first campaign live. Growing at the same budget takes more control than that. We add it, directly in your ad account and your store.
Tracking reconciliation
We check Google Ads purchases against Shopify orders and remove duplicate conversion actions.
Search campaigns
Brand and non-brand split, so you stop paying for buyers who would come anyway.
Shopping and Performance Max
Products grouped by margin, each group with its own target. Details on Google Shopping for Shopify.
Feed from Shopify
Titles and attributes prepared for Google without rewriting your product pages. Setup and sync are covered under Google Merchant Center for Shopify.
Product pages and checkout
Same traffic, more orders: we improve the pages your ads land on.
Measurement in Shopify
Success counts as revenue after returns in your store.
What the Google & YouTube app does and what it leaves open
According to Google Merchant Center Help, the app syncs your Shopify products to Merchant Center and creates Performance Max campaigns. When you create a campaign, it adds conversion actions to your Google Ads account automatically. That's a solid start. It doesn't steer by profit.
| Task | Google & YouTube app | What we add |
|---|---|---|
| Products into Merchant Center | automatic sync | feed titles, attributes and custom_label via rules or supplemental data sources |
| Campaigns | Performance Max from inside Shopify | brand and non-brand Search, Standard Shopping, split by margin |
| Conversion tracking | adds conversion actions automatically | check against Shopify, one primary purchase action, duplicates removed |
| Success metric | revenue in the ad account | contribution margin and revenue in the Shopify admin |
Do Google Ads and Shopify count the same orders?
Double-counted purchases are a common problem in Shopify accounts. The app creates its own conversion actions. If an older tag still fires through Google Tag Manager or a previous app, Google counts one purchase twice. Target ROAS then bids on revenue that doesn't exist.
An example: Google Ads reports 1,150 purchases in a month, while Shopify shows 1,000 orders across all channels in the same period. Google can't have more purchases than your store has orders, so at least one action counts twice. We check these points in every account:
| Check | Where | Target state |
|---|---|---|
| Purchases in Google Ads | Google Ads, conversions | well below total Shopify orders |
| Actions of type purchase | Google Ads, goals | exactly one primary purchase action |
| Conversion value | test order vs value in Google Ads | known whether it includes tax and shipping |
| Returns | Shopify, orders | return rate known per product group |
| New customers | Shopify, customer reports | share of new customers known per campaign |
If tracking is off, Google optimizes toward the wrong numbers. That's why we reconcile first, before we touch a single bid.
Which campaigns a Shopify store needs
| Campaign | Purpose | How we steer it |
|---|---|---|
| Brand Search | protect your own brand | small separate budget, doesn't count as growth |
| Non-brand Search | category and problem searches | exact and phrase match, negatives from the search terms report |
| Shopping and Performance Max | product searches and reach | campaigns or asset groups per margin tier, each with its own target ROAS |
The split is the first lever. While brand searches run inside Performance Max, ROAS looks good even though part of those buyers would have come anyway. At NuBest, brand and new customers were mixed and Shopping sat unused before we rebuilt Google Ads and the feeds.

Google Ads for Shopify FAQ
How do I connect Shopify to Google Ads?
Through the Google & YouTube app in the Shopify App Store. It links Shopify to Merchant Center and your Google Ads account and syncs your products.
Is the Google & YouTube app enough for Google Ads?
For a start, yes. It syncs products and creates Performance Max campaigns. Brand separation, Search campaigns and margin-based targets you set up directly in Google Ads.
Why does Google Ads report more purchases than Shopify?
Usually two conversion actions count the same purchase, for example the app and an older tag. Google also attributes purchases within its own conversion window. Comparing against Shopify orders shows which action double counts.
Which campaign types work for Shopify stores?
Brand Search, non-brand Search, and Shopping plus Performance Max split by margin tier. Which campaign gets which budget depends on contribution margin.
What does Google Ads management for Shopify cost at Harucon?
That depends on the size and starting point of your brand. After the intro call you get a fixed offer in writing, before anything starts.
We are below $3M in annual revenue. Can we still work together?
Yes. Book a call. The guarantee starts at $3M, and we find the right starting point together.
